One of the best things about living in Clarkston is the varied shopping and eating hub within the Business Improvement District (BID).
Photos of Clarkston from the East Renfrewshire Heritage Service through the ages show almost exactly the same road infrastructure as we have now but we now have inordinately more traffic than in the sepia tinted past. How could we encourage people to leave the car when visiting Clarkston?

The East Ren Greens have concerns about diminishing footfall in the area once the Eastwood Health and Care Centre opens and also the poor public transport links between Clarkston and Williamwood. We think the BID should investigate the viability of providing a ‘shopper’ transport service linking Sheddens, Clarkston, and Williamwood – we cannot continue to force more cars through Clarkston and ignore pollution, gridlock, and accident risk.
The BID has improved the aesthetic of Clarkston and the fireworks showpiece underlines the area’s potential but we feel it has lost some of its momentum. Furthermore, we don’t feel that the people of Clarkston have been involved as key voices in the BID process.
