We had a great time down in Clarkston today, at the end of the first official week of the campaign for the Scottish Parliament. The street was packed full of political activists, but we were the last ones standing and we enjoyed talking those who braved the gauntlet about what a bold, Green presence in Holyrood could mean for them.
It’s fair to say that a lot of the people we spoke to were worried about local services, and our commitment to fairer taxes and local control went down well, though there were points where I wished I had this graphic at hand to help with the explanation:
A few passers by also expressed concern about the financial competence of the current administration of East Renfrewshire Council, which I expect will be a big deal when it comes to next year’s local government elections, and those making use of the train were understandably interested in our commitment to renationalising it.
In short, it was a great way to start the weekend – here’s to many more conversations on the way to a Green Holyrood!
