East Renfrewshire Greens are delighted to be able to confirm that our branch’s First Birthday Party and AGM will be held on Saturday 21st November between 2pm and 4pm at Barrhead Scout Hall!
The event will consist of a formal AGM and a less formal social event in which we look back over the past year, discuss our aims for the future, and hopefully get to know each other a bit better in the process. I have been assured that there will be cake and if you’re anything like me this will do quite a lot to get you through the door!
If you don’t know any other East Ren Greens, or if you’d just prefer to bring a friend or family members with you, please note that non-members will be welcome although they will not be able to vote on any of the proposals on the day. We’re keen to keep the day as child friendly as possible, so we’ll be running some activities for any children that come along in order to keep them entertained during the drier parts of the event.
Speaking of which, here’s the agenda for our first Annual General Meeting:
1) Vote to accept the branch constitution – East Renfrewshire Greens are working to become recognised as a full, distinct branch by the Scottish Green Party. In order to achieve this, we will need to agree on a branch constitution – please download the draft constitution on Green Talk, as this will need to be voted on/amended as required on the day.
2) Call for office bearers – Following on from that, we will be looking to elect members to the following roles: 2 x Co-Conveners (gender balanced), Treasurer, Events and Fundraising Co-Ordinator,Campaigns Co-ordinator, Communications Co-Ordinator, Membership Secretary, and Secretary.
Role profiles for these positions have been uploaded to Green Talk for those interested in standing.
If you would like to be considered for one or more of these positions, please let us know by sending an email to email@example.com by 23.59 on Wednesday 18th November. This email should note which position(s) you wish to be considered for, and provide a paragraph outlining your suitability for the role(s) in question. If any given role is contested on the day, candidates will be required to give a short statement on this topic to the room prior to a vote being taken, so getting your thoughts down beforehand is probably a good idea! If you’d like to stand for a role but can’t make it on the day, submitting your notification and statement will allow you to put yourself forward for selection in absentia.
In line with Green principles, we’re hoping to have a good amount of diversity in our formally recognised positions, and as a small branch we are hoping to share the workload between ourselves and make sure that there are enough people involved to ensure that no one person is under too much pressure. As such, we’re keen to encourage as many people to stand for these positions as possible – it might sound scary, but we will work best if we all work together and look after each other, so please consider whether there are any roles you can see yourself filling here. If you have any questions about either the roles or the process for selecting them, please let us know!
3) Report on Branch Finances – Finally, the newly elected Treasurer will present a statement of our branch’s finances to the meeting.
Thanks for your time and patience – I look forward to seeing you at our first birthday party!
Comms Co-Ordinator (but for how much longer?)
